13m Aluminum / Steel Cruiser
SY Barefoot recently launched, built by Dearden Marine.

This boat was designed as a world girdling cruiser, for a very experienced owner in 1987. The basic character of the boat is a modern, fast, high volume boat with a powerful stern. She is "stiff" and a good all rounder with a good balance between speed, handling and sea penetration. Scantlings are in excess of Lloyds and she can be considered a good "icebreaker" for high latitude sailing.

The interior is opulently spacious as the first owner is a large individual, providing good lebensraum, without trying to cram in too many features. The galley is an efficient "U'., without the need of a body strap in a seaway. The chart table is a full (QE II) size, and the freezer alongside it is true "long range" volume. The engine is central and accessible for easy maintenance. The aft cabin incorporates (unusual in a boat this size) a standard size double bed size. The second double cabin forward makes this an ideal family or two couple boat. The saloon is a huge area, with a wonderful open plan feel, since the boat is unobstructed from the wet locker at the companion way all the way to the forward saloon bulkhead.

On deck all lines lead into the cockpit tot shorthanded sailing. A folding dodger or fixed doghouse provides excellent protection from the elements. The cockpit lockers are huge, and both gas bottle and liferaft storages are provided under the helmsmans seat. Aft is the obligatory (these days) swim platform with folding ladder. particular attention has been paid to good light and ventilation throughout, with masses of dorades and hatches.

The detailing is very complete The full set of drawings are available in alloy or steel, roundbilge or multichine. The lines are computer faired for total accuracy, and full scale computer plotted mylar sections are supplied. All other elements of the design, performance analysis, appendages, structure, stability & weights, hydrostatics, have all benefited from thorough computer processing.
