This boat is conceived as a fast family "funship"
for cruising coastal New Zealand, but also capable of ocean
cruising to the Pacific Islands. She is also not be boring to
race in "fun racing" fixtures! She also had to be
as economical to build as possible, in hard chine plywood.
Numerically
she is a light displacement cruiser, with a carefully engineered
structure and a really low center of gravity "wing bulb"
keel. The wide flattened bulb is an effective hydrodynamic
fence, and while not being vulnerable in groundings is as
effective as a conventional bulb keel 3 or 400 mm deeper.
The
boat has crisp (and viceless) handling characteristics, good
"pick up" acceleration, good speed through the wind
range on all points. The leisurefurl in boom furling makes
the boat no work at all. She carries full working sail upwind
to 20 knots true windspeed.
