AfriCat 420, 450

This medium speed, long range powercat fullfills an area of the production powercat market that has not been really addressed till now, namely, powercats with "ocean going" capability. This boat has the increased beam to minimise drag created by the divergent wavetrain at displacement speeds, and increased depth and rocker to accommodate large capacity fuel tanks. Over 30 of this boat have been built, mostly using bigger engines and higher speeds than originally envisaged. Normal shaft drives from twin 160 KW up to twin 260 KW giving speeds up to 26 knots, and (with modified hull bottom) twin IPS drives at about 30 knots. A new planing hull form, the New 450 is launching soon.
